Surprise Present! Final

All finished up with this Christmas Cutie. I still have one more to go.

Pretty productive day today. Managed to put a big dent in a series of projects for one client and picked up a new job as well. More on that as the date of the event gets closer. So all in all, a good day. Tomorrow I have a full schedule of work as well as a trip to the art store for some illustration boards. Went to the flat file and the flat file was bare. I plan to do most, if not all of the Space Ghost commission this weekend. Hence the need for illustration board. I love saying "hence".

My 1970s hot pants Supergirl auction is ending tonight. Still time to take her home. For those interested, here is the link.

Thanks Brian. It looks like I will have to redo her though...when I made the low res version for CILM and for the blog, I messed up and saved with the same file name. Meaning I don't have the hi-res version for ImageKind cards and prints. Oy!

Oh, and the box? Do Not Open until Christmas. :)

Gene,

The colors look very vibrant in this piece, love the candy cane background.

Hope the art store is well stocked for your needs.

How much do you spend on art supplies during a typical restock trip like this? Any particular chain of art store that you like?

Thanks Gary. I have three art stores within 20 minutes. Which is a big improvement from living in NE Tennessee. The closest art store was almost 1.5 hours away. I would tend to spend anywhere from 100.00 to 300.00 stocking up when we made a trip down there. Otherwise I would use any number of on-line stores. But there is something to say for the tactile experience of trying something in the store that make you buy, buy, buy. Especially brushes. Here the two stores I like to visit are local retailers. I try to give them my business. There is a Pearl Paint in Tampa, but I don't go there as much. Because so much of my work is digital these days, I don't buy as much as I used to.

I think the Christmas Cutie has something much more interesting in the box than art supplies. ;)

Gene is the artistic version of Ol' Mother Hubbard! The Christmas Cutie turned out great Gene!! You ought to run a contest to see what Carol Merrill is hiding in that box! I am betting on Microwave Oven or maybe a baby goat.

Had to google the Carol Merrill reference....got it now :)

Royce's microwave and baby goat comment had me worried :)

Brian,
Back in the day, I used to watch "Let's Make A Deal" just to see the wacky goings on. I especially liked the ending segment where Monty Hall would offer someone a $100 for a matchstick or some other common item. Carol was always introduced as the "Lovely Carol Merril" and was a precursor to Vanna White and the Barker Beauties. This was at a time when Microwaves were relatively new and just finding their way into American kitchens. It is funny now, but at the time, they were viewed as a "High End Prizes" on the show, routinely drawing many oohs and ahhs from the crowd. Of course, during the course of the many trades that went on...you were just as likely to end up with a pig or a goat instead. Classic show!

Yeah after I googled her it was all clear. I too remember the show just blanked on the name and reference..... Ok first person to show me a paperclip wins 50 dollars! :)
