Another Legion commission! I can't get enough of them! Today is Wildfire! I thought Wildfire was one of the coolest looking characters when I first saw him in Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes 205. He didn't do much but that visor was cool. It wasn't until I got the elusive issue 201 and the even more elusive first appearance in issue 195 (you have no idea how difficult it was to find that comic back then) that I got to see him in action. Good times!
And if you are interested, I also recorded the inking process and uploaded it to my YouTube channel. Click on over for the better resolution.
Ink and watercolor on 11" x 17" Strathmore water color paper.
This is the last of this batch of Legionnaires. I'm gonna miss them. All the pieces have been a blast to do. Exploring costumes that were never used or only seen in a very limited fashion. Which just reminded me of some costumes that Legion artist Jim Sherman did in one of the Legion treasury books. Some of those never saw action outside of that book. Maybe that will be a future batch?
This warm up sketch was created on my iPad Pro using Procreate art app and using the apps recording feature. This was recorded in 1080p so if you watch it on YouTube you can used the higher resolution setting.
CONVENTIONLESS CONVENTION COMMISSION (CCC)! It's just like a regular con sketch that I would do for you at a convention, except no crowds, no convention hall food, no hotel bill, and no travel. And the price is the same as a show sketch. You only have to pay extra for shipping. Still cheaper than going to a show. If you have been waiting to get a black and white, inked single character sketch from me, now is the time to get it. This time around I am offering some other options as well. If not for yourself, maybe you want a gift for that special someone? The holidays are just around the corner!
Here are the CCC options...
• 9" x 12" Inked head shot: $50.00
• 11" x 17" Inked single character: $75.00
• 11" x 17" Inked with some color single character: $125.00
I will not be doing multiple characters on a single board. Shipping is $15.00. No matter how many sketches you get! Buy 1: Shipping is $15.00! Buy 20, shipping is $15.00! This shipping cost is for the US only, sorry. If you are outside the US, please contact me for shipping costs.
I have not set a specific amount of requests that I will take. I will just see what the requests are and see what I can handle. I am planning to begin them on November 16th and complete them by Dec. 16th. Any background elements will be at my discretion. Finished art will be mailed each Thursday or Friday.
Payment is PayPal only. (No e-checks, please).
If you are interested, send me an email to gene_gonzales(at)mac(dot)com. Please use "Conventionless Convention Commission" in the subject line and let me know what you would like. That address and subject line are very important. It helps me sort the requests from other emails. That email address is also my PayPal account, but check with me before sending money, please. I do reserve the right to turn down requests that I don't feel comfortable drawing. If you have any questions, please email me.
Please tell your friends, family, and local politicians. Tweet it on Twitter, Tumble it on Tumblr, Pin it on Pinterest, Face it on Facebook...Okay, that one didn't sound right, but you get the idea. Please get the word out any way you can. Thanks! :)
Sorry about the images. My scanner has never done a decent job with the subtlety of watercolors so I just took quick photos of the images.
I've had a few emails asking about doing a round of commissions for the holidays. I am hoping to announce something along those lines in the next few weeks. I've had a couple work projects going and then I had a big series of jobs drop in my lap that need to be done. Plus I still have a few more Legion paintings that I took on just before the extra, extra work happened. When I have a better idea of my time I will announce something here and on Twitter. Which feeds my Facebook page as well.
This was a project I wanted to do for years. I thought it would be fun to do variant covers where the back-up story was featured on the cover. The production error on the original cover for Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroess was the inspiration. The two titles on the cover are flopped. It should have read "Last Fight for a Legionnaire" (the lead story) Plus "Death Stroke at Dawn" (the back up). But someone messed up the order.
So I took the back up story of Night Girl and Shadow Lass (with Cosmic Boy) and made it the cover feature. This entire piece was done by hand, logos, lettering and all in ink on 11" x 17" bristol board. I had so much fun with this I imagine I will do some more in the near future.
Here are the last of the pieces done for or at HeroesCon. If I didn't include yours it just means I neglected/forgot to take a picture at the show or scan it in advance. If you have a picture/scan of the art that you would like me to share send it to me. Enjoy!
I will be finishing up the presentation of the pieces done for HeroesCon over the weekend. Didn't mean to drag it out. I came home to an incredible amount of work that has to be done by Monday morning. Here are some photos taken of pieces I did at the show. Not of scan quality but still fun to share. I hope enjoy!
