RA'S AL GHUL commission - Finish

Ras Al Ghul/Talia/Batman © DC Comics

Here is the final art for Brian "Batmite" Jones. This piece was a lot of fun to do because for me it goes back to the incredibly cool time period when Neal Adams was drawing Batman. And I love that period! Thanks again Brian!

This commission was done in ink on a sheet of 11" x 17" Strathmore Bristol Board.

This is Post #907

Fantastic job Gene! I liked the idea when I first mentioned it to you, your thumbnail was even better than what I had envisioned and the final product is awesome! A great cover worthy image that has me grinning like the Joker :)
Great homage to one of my favorite periods in "bat" history and I love it!

I'll be telling you this again in a couple weeks...Thank You!

This is a great finished piece, and worthy of "cover" treatment if it were to be published. Great job!

Wow, that's just gorgeous!

Ra's and Talia look amazing, and I really like the way you framed the shot with Batman in the foreground -- it adds real drama and urgency to the piece.

The Neal Adams era was a great one. Did you know that Neal is coming back to do a Batman mini-series?

Love the piece. Whose idea? Kudos to whomever. Whomever?

Thanks everyone.

To answer Craig's question, it was Brian who came up with the idea. In his email, Brian said "I started thinking it might be fun to do a piece where maybe you just see in the foreground Batman's glove holding a batarang like he's walking in to Ra's lair and a torn Talia between him and her father Ra's who has his sword drawn ready to have it out with the detective once and for all." It was a great idea and Brian deserves the credit. :)

To be honest, I was thinking of his arm on one side of the page. The way you framed it in the thumnnail was brilliant. Almost gives it the feeling of two gunfighters getting ready to throwdown. So I say it was a a Gonzales/Jones team up...Me with a base hit and Gene knocking it out of the park!

Oh and Carlos I will be picking it up at the show :)
