Played with the program PAINTER X today. This is probably an hour of work. Most of it was done with the Artist Oils brushes. I didn't do a lot of blending because I wanted the brush strokes to show. This program is going to be very addictive. I need to make sure I don't go overboard. :) This piece was done completely in the program. I roughed it out with big blocks of color, no contour, or outline drawing. Fun stuff. And yes, I realized after I was done that his collar should have been blue. Oops.

Gene,
As a comparison, if you were to do this piece without the aid of a computer or digital technology, how long would it take to do?
Hey, I like the collar color the way it is!
Gary
Nice Gene. I like the rough feel to this.
Glad you finally got around to playing with your new toy a little bit!
Gary- If I were to sketch/paint in oils to do something like this, it would involve setting up a palette with the paint, getting the cleaners and other solvents set up and after would be a lot of clean up, since I don't have an area to leave a set up ready to go all the time. Then there's the time it takes to dry. And reworking would be more involved than doing it digital. Half day, maybe? Not sure. Thanks for the question.
Royce - Thanks, I like texture and depth. For some reason I can rarely get this type of piece done using traditional mediums. Working digital frees me from the restraints I place on myself.
Nice change of pace!
Thanks Craig. Wait until you see Monday's offering. REAL change of pace. :)
