Silver Sable

This was done for Shane in his sketchbook. Shane risked his book with the USPS to get it to me ahead of the show in case I had some time to do his request early. I read the note he put in the book asking for tough and sexy Silver Sable. He provided a page of references that have various looks to the character but said I could do my own take on her. Dakota had a dentist appointment so I sat in the waiting room with my sketchbook. I sketch out an idea or two but this one was the coolest. Kind of a Robert McGinnis paperback novel pose. The only thing I changed on her was her headband. The references made the headband scream 1980s. I made it wider and pulled it back to keep her hair out of her face. May look more 1960s, but at least it has a function this way. Thanks to Shane for the commission and for allowing me to share it here early.

Also, according to UPS, my sketchbooks should be arriving today. Fingers crossed that they look good. I will probably post a Tweet on Twitter when they arrive.

Absolutely Fanatastic! I can't believe how quick you got to this, guess you couldn't resist her charm (or her gun!)! Thanks so much, it looks awesome, I can't wait to see her in person! Glad you got to play around with her look, too.

Hey Shane, you gots a good one from Gene, congratulations!

Gene, use of some of the Copic markers? The pose reminds me somewhat of the last Josie piece you did for me!

Thanks again Shane, glad you like her!

Gary, yup, I used the markers on this one. And I didn't even think about the Josie piece until you mentioned it. Similar, not doubt, compounded by the 1950/1960 style of chair that I used in both. Same style of chair I used for my New Year post. You can tell my taste in furniture. It just goes to show that there are no new poses. :) While Josie was done completely without reference (except for the guitar), I had Deena pose for this one because I had trouble with the right arm and gun. :)

Fantastic Silver Sable, Gene! I don't think I've seen her look better in or out of the comics.

And really good call on the retrofit of her costume: Silver is a pretty cool character but her default costume design has lead to some sub-par depictions over the years. Often, she looks too retro (with a hairstyle out of the 70s and a headband out of the 80s) or overly reminiscent of her heyday in the nineties (massive shoulder pads, more massive guns).

The look you gave her here is classic, but still entirely modern. Great work.

Sable looks great and you updated her nicely. I would say your version would sell more than a few books :)

Saw your twitter post and all I can say is "Bring on the Bat" cant wait!
