BATGIRL - Inked

I had taken the same approach to this piece as I have with some other recent pin-ups, using a single line weight. But it didn't look right. So I mixed things up a bit. I used the fattest Micron pen, (1) and tried to treat it like a brush. The toughest part was doing the lighter line weight because it does not have a fine tip but the more I used it the more comfortable I became with it. Batgirl was outlined with it and her rope was drawn with it. I also used it to increase the up shadows around her belt. I did end up pulling out a brush for the solid black areas and for some feathering. Microns were used for the cross hatching on the roof top. All in all it was a fun mash up to do. This is ink on 11" x 17" Canson Bristol Board.

Since I shared all my Halloween images before Halloween, I've got nothing to say other than Happy Halloween! The Halloween images I have available for prints on ImageKind.com will be removed tomorrow afternoon. So if you have a need for a Halloween print from me, now is the time to get it. :) Have a safe and fun Trick or Treating everyone!

Happy Halloween all you Ghouls and boys! Love the fact that you brought out a "Bat" for the occasion Gene, and what a lovely piece this turned out to be! Since you gave us this "treat", I guess there will be no tricks for you tonight. Is Batgirl spoken for already or is she headed for Ebay?

On another note, congrats on your streak...10 months down (plus a little of 2007 that got things started) and two months to go!! Amazing run so far and the variety of art that has been shared is equally impressive. Roughs, pencils, inks, colors, business pieces, whiteboards, comics pages, Conventionless sketches...it has all been there for our pleasure. All we have to do is press a mouse a few times and we get to visit your extensive portfolio. Thanks man, in case we don't say it enough.

Happy Halloween back at 'cha Royce! Batgirl is gonna probably hit eBay, we'll see.

Thanks for noticing the streak continues. I am glad you have stuck with me on this adventure. You (and the others) showing up and posting comments is thanks enough!

Gene,

Firstly, the combined inking techniques resulted in an excellent Batgirl piece, hope to see this one on ebay!

Now that Halloween is past, will we be seeing some more Christmas posts?

As far as "the streak", I think you should do a special pinup commemerating the streak of 2008! The bigger question though is are you thinking of continuing the streak into 2009?

Thanks Gary.

I will be finishing up 2 more Christmas Cuties. One of which is sketched out. Because my workload got heavy I haven't been able to paint. Doing the black and white pieces take a little less time but mostly don't need any set up like painting does. But I do need to get those done.

As far as "the streak" goes, I still have 61 days to go. While the end of the year is close, I still can't see December 31st from here. My feeling about the blog is that is is an exercise for me to create everyday and post. There have been days I know I would not have drawn had it not been for the blog. So it has been very helpful for me in that respect. Also, and I can't stress this enough, hearing from all of you is inspiring. I spend a lot of hours alone, working in a vacuum as it were. So the back and forth between everyone who posts has been great. I know that everyone is busy and that makes me appreciate the fact that all of you still take time to drop in and see what I have posted and leave a comment. Sorry, long answer for a short question. :)

Not to jinx myself, but maybe we do need something to celebrate the streak. Hmmmmm.

I am all for celebration of noteworthy accomplishments!

A "Streak" pinup sounds like a fantastic idea!

Is Ray Stevens listening?

On that note, I heard on the radio yesterday that a high schooler from somewhere "cold" last week streaked across the football field during Homecoming, jumped a fence and disappeared into some nearby woods to attempt his get-away. He failed to plan properly and apparently assumed he wouldn't be hunted like a fugitive by the Police on hand for the game, who called in for backup and more manpower. The kid shivered in the cold for about an hour and a half before giving himself up. The DA is pressing to prosecute on a basis of sexual predation and get the guy labeled as a sex offender. Don't know if it will stick but I was shocked to hear of the DA's interpretation of the offense. I am somewhat conservative about such things myself, but I find this a rather harsh treatment considering the way such things were viewed as I was growing up in the late 60's/early 70's when streaking was much more commonplace, especially at sporting events. My, how times have changed! What do you guys think??

I agree, the potential punishment exceeds the crime. But it's not the first time. There was a case in Utah last year in which a similar thing happened though I don't know how that panned out. Along the same line of labeling someone as a sex offender, how come they don't lock up Bristol Palin's or Jamie Lynn Spears baby daddy? Both girls were under the age of consent and the guys were "adults". But a streaker, throw the book at him. Oy!
