So you came to the 700th consecutive day of this blog...

And all you got was a quickly drawn Hulk. What a let down. :)

I really didn't have any plans for this milestone, especially with the 2 year anniversary coming up on January 1. So why such a quick sketch? It was done sometime this morning while I was eating lunch. Yes, lunch in the morning. My day started around 4am and just ended at 9:45pm. It was a full day of work for three clients and I got a lot accomplished. So while the day has been long, it was a good day. :)

I hope everyone survived CyberMonday! The horror! ;)

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

Just a quick piece done in my sketchbook with ink and Copic Markers.

Also, Budd Root has put another page of Cavewoman on eBay. This is the second of two pages I inked. Budd was great to work with and with any luck I will get a chance to play in his sandbox again. And because someone asked me about it, I thought I would mention that Budd is auctioning those pages for me. :) Here is the link for the second page, and the link for the first page that ends tomorrow.

I hope that everyone here in the states had a great and safe Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Showgirls and Cavewoman

Today we have a commission I finished before the holiday and was just told I could share it. It's a gift, and while I was told the recipient doesn't come to or know about my blog, it would probably be best not to mention who commissioned it. :) This was a lot of fun. I was given the basic idea and was allowed to run with it. Below are the three rough ideas I came up with. We ended up combining elements of two of them and going with a Palms Playboy Bunny instead of a feathery showgirl. I think it worked out very well.

In other news, Gary emailed me this morning to let me know that one of the CAVEWOMAN pages I inked is on eBay. I had such a blast inking over the incredible Budd Root and hope to again sometime. If you want to see the page, and perhaps bid on it, here is the link: CAVEWOMAN ART

New Tools

Picked up some Copic Markers today and took about 30 minutes to play with them. It is going to be a long process to learn but I always enjoy learning new mediums. I bought them to be used on the Iron Man 2 sketch cards I am doing. I figure working small with them will be helpful and I will learn a lot as I go. Wish me luck.

This sketch was done in my sketchbook using Copic Markers.

Guess who loves a parade...

Lemmings! Lemmings love a parade! It's almost like it's part of their genetic code. Who woulda thunk? ;)

You might have missed this float in the Macy's parade today as a sudden gust of wind carried it away. And in true lemming fashion, no one let go and they all floated off together. Let's hope they landed safely and be thankful we are not like lemmings. :)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Batman!

I decided to do another Batman head shot but this time I finished it out with ink and markers on a sheet of 11" x 14" Canson 90lb drawing paper. I'm pretty pleased with it. :)

I came across something kind of funny the other day. This blogger makes a comparison between a Alan Scott Green Lantern story I worked on 15 years ago to the big Blackest Night event going on now. It's really strange to see that work show up out of the blue. Take a look if you dare :) Here's the link.

Sketchbook Tuesday! - Batman

Just some Batman related sketches today. My days have been filled with Batman and Robin lately and I have never been completely happy with my version of Batman. For me Neal Adams and Jim Aparo defined my ideal Batman. Especially Aparo's early run in Detective Comics and The Brave and The Bold. Those 100 Page Spectacular issues of those titles were among my favorites! Batman teamed up with Aquaman in one of those issues and Aquaman was a total badass! The Atom revived a brain dead Batman in another issue of B&B. Over in Detective Comics, Batman is hunted for the murder of Tahlia. In Batman, The Shadow guest stars! (I think Irv Novick did the art on that one). Great time to be a comic reader!

Aquagirl

Just a quick sketch today with some Photoshop colors. Aquagirl, or Tula, was Aqualad's girlfriend back in the old days. She was a fun character but she had a strange hairstyle. :) She was feathering her hair before it was hip. Have a good evening folks.

Atom Eve - sketchbook

Just a little Atom Eve from my sketchbook today with some Photoshop colors thrown in. Spent most of the day finishing a commission. Not just a commission, but the last commission on my list. I am officially caught up.

I think I might do this Atom Eve as a painting. I really like this character and her look from the comics. Oh, and as of this post, Star Girl from yesterday is still available.

Star Girl

I felt bad that it has been sketchy stuff all week. So when I read that Star Girl will be in the upcoming episodes of SMALLVILLE featuring the JSA, I got a bit excited and started drawing her. And since I haven't done a Canson Cutie of her, it seemed like the way to go. :)

And for those that like to see the roughs, below is the initial sketch I did for this piece.

If anyone is interested in purchasing the original just drop me an email. Otherwise she is eBay bound. :) Star Girl is done in ink, color pencil and acrylic on an 11" x 17" sheet of Canson Mi-Teines paper.

Sketchbook Friday!

Wow. It's been a while since I had a run of sketch book days like this. I hope no one is disappointed when they show up and all they see are doodles. I have two finished commissions, Iron Man sketch cards and a ton of work I have done for DC that I cannot show. But soon on the commissions. They were commissioned as gifts so I will have to wait until they are unwrapped. :) Have a good weekend everyone!

Sketchbook Thursday

More sketches today folks. Hawkgirl mostly. The weekend is coming up and while that would normally be welcome for some rest, it's not the case for me. Busy, busy, busy! Not complaining, believe me. :)

Hawkgirl

Just a digital sketch I did today. I had this idea for the pose in my head since Hawkgirl was suggested as the next Canson Cutie. Don't know if this will be the final pose I use but I like it.

This was sketched and colored in Photoshop.

Sketchbook Tuesday!

Another round of sketches from earlier today. Busy day again and adding to it is Dakota's 14th Birthday today! WooHoo! So it's another sketchbook day.

I thought we might get this post up. I have been trying for a while, gave up, went out, came back and finally Blogger will take my image. Whew. Hate to break this streak due to technical difficulties. Okay, gotta go. Cake and presents time!

Just Another Sketchbook Monday

Today's title is a twist on the song Prince wrote for the Bangles. It was a busy day today. I worked right up to the point where Deena and Dakota had to drag me away from the computer to go to another of Dakota's orchestra performances. And they rocked, by the way. So it is just some sketches I did at lunch for today's post. Working up some ideas for another Canson Cutie to do when I have time. Any suggestions for characters?

Medusa - Canson Cutie

It's been a while since I did one of these Canson Cuties. This was done for fun. There were a few people here, on Twitter and on Facebook that wanted to see her finished from the sketch I posted a couple of days ago. Plus I really liked the figure work on her so here she is. If anyone is interested in purchasing her, shoot me an email. Otherwise, she is eBay bound. :)

This was done in ink, color pencils and Pro White paint on an 11" x 17" sheet of Canson Mi-Teintes paper.

The Brainiac-Luthor Team

This is the finished art of a commission for Royce. He had given me a list of Superman family characters for me to chose from to do a commission piece. When I saw Luthor (in prison grays) and the silver age Brainiac on the list, I suggested pairing them up in a re-imagined image of the cover to Superman #167. He liked the idea and we were off. This was really more fun to do than I can express. I did my best to channel the late, great Curt Swan. Thanks again Royce!

This is ink on 11" x 17" Strathmore Bristol Board.

Medusa

Just a little sketch of Medusa from my sketchbook. The figure/pose was done early today but I had no idea what to do with it. Crystal (Fantastic Four/Inhumans) was my first thought but then I went with Medusa in order to play with the long hair. :)

Have a good weekend everyone!

Sketchbook Thursday

It was a full day. Most of it was spent doing some commercial work and then most of the late afternoon and evening was working on a commissioned painting. The good news is the commercial work got done and the painting is about 95% done. It's at the point where I will add some effects and little touches and then it's finished. That will happen tomorrow. The bad news is there was very little time for sketching. I started two ideas that I quickly abandoned. They weren't working out the way I wanted them to and I think it was because todays busy schedule was on my mind. So much so that I almost forgot to scan the sketches. Oy.

Just a doodle in my sketchbook using a carmine red Col-Erase pencil.

Other news, I just noticed I am down to the last five copies of my sketchbook. Send me an email if you are interested in purchasing one.

Attitude

Another very busy day and another doodle from the sketchbook this morning. Added some colors in Photoshop in the afternoon. This is something I would like to do on a canvas. Loose sketchy lines with splashes of color. Maybe I will make some time to do one after the holidays.

Plug & Play

This started out as just the figure in my sketchbook. Then it morphed into this after putting a piece of copy paper over it and redrawing and simplifying the figure. I have no idea where this came from but I think it is interesting.

Other news, Deena and I will be going to Ruth Ekhard Hall tonight to see the Pinellas All County Orchestra perform. Our daughter Dakota auditioned and made the cut. She is 3rd Chair Viola and we are extremely proud of her. Tonight is their first performance. Please join us in wishing Dakota to "break a leg" tonight! :)
