Black Widow - Rough

It's been a while since I shared some rough stuff. I thought I would to a Black Widow piece to ink with pens, much in the same way I did the Ivy piece from a couple of days ago. I still have some refining to do but here is the first stage. This is 2B and H pencil on 11" x 17" Cason Bristol Board.

Hi Gene!

Is this another ebay bound piece or was this a requested commission?

I love the eyes on her!

Ebay bound, Gary. I will be inking it the same way I did Ivy. Since I am still working that out, no one has asked for that style. :)

Her eyes were really off and had to be fixed. If you download the image and flip it horizontally, you will see. I fixed them and inked them in a 1960s eye make up style. Thanks!

OK, I see the eye problem now, although, I think the left eye (her right) got something positive going for it, maybe it is the style I am reacting too (I seem to like your animated style..at least that is my term for it).

If you do this with the clean micro pen finish, result will be interesting since BW is oftened rendered with heavy and curvy lines.

You're absolutely correct, her right eye was good. To fix the eyes (and nose) I flip the paper over and look at it with my light table. Mostly keeping her left eye as is and adjusting the other one and her nose. I then flip it back over and redraw the fixes from the other side. So the original has the face on both sides.

It took my untrained eye a few minutes to see what you guys are talking about, but I must say that I think it looked fine, especially for a "rough." Am looking froward to seeing the final product on this one and see the correction side by side with the original.
