Phantom Girl - Pittsburgh ComiCon Advance Sketch

Phantom Girl © DC Comics

I'm doing something a little different this time. I will be sharing the art I am doing in advance of the Pittsburgh ComiCon. Actually, I will only be sharing the prepaid pieces and only with the okay of the person who commissioned it. I have a lot of commercial work right now and any free time is dedicated to the list. So I haven't got much time for anything else that I could post. And I can't share the commercial work yet. So...

This was created for Royce! Royce was going to attend his first Pittsburgh ComiCon but just recently had to cancel. You are going to miss out on a great dinner party Royce. Sorry you can't make it. Royce asked for Phantom Girl and Saturn Girl from the Curt Swan/Adventure Comics era. Well, he had me hooked on the idea when he said "How about some Legionnaires?" So today we have Phantom Girl in her original outfit. I am really happy with her face. For some reason I see a young Barbi Benton in her eyes. Not intentional. And I may be the only one who sees it, but I like it. Thanks Royce!

This was done in ink on a sheet of 11" x 17" bristol board.

This is Post #1277

MMmmmm Barbie Benton. Haven't thought about her in years, but now that you mention it, I can see her face as well in this piece. Totally awesome piece Gene! If you want Legionnaires, Gene is the "Go-To" Guy! Really bummed about missing the con, and especially the dinner, but I WILL make it next year. And who knows, I may hit the lottery and make it this year anyway. lol Until then, I will rely on the awesome con reports from those on this board that do attend. Have fun everybody!

Damn, sorry you can't come to the show, Royce! I was really looking forward to meeting you! Ah, well. We'll have to put it off until Heroes! :D

And, Gene...in advance, you may share my piece with the rest of the class when it's completed! :D

Thanks Royce! I once saw Barbi shopping at the Eagle Rock Plaza in L.A. back in the late 70s. I did a double take and she flashed that big smile of hers. Sigh.

Thanks Spazzy! ;)

Thanks Carlos, I will!

Thanks Brian, I will! :)

I like the line you used on her, Gene. Is this pen or brush? Not your usual heavier looking inking but a bit more delicate. Well done!

Thanks John, exactly what I am shooting for. This was mostly pen with my smaller Pentel brush pen for the blacks.
