DEATH - HeroesCon Advance Sketch

Death © DC Comics

Here's another piece that I presented a tease of just before HeroesCon. Alex asked for a "trophy" room of the future with Death. He asked that I fill it with iconic DC Comics items and even some Marvel stuff if I was up to the task. This was fun to do. Joe Pekar even suggested things to put in as I started running out of ideas on my own. Thanks Alex!

ZATANNA - HeroesCon Advance Sketch

Zatanna © DC Comics

Here is the second Canson Cutie Zatanna. Alex asked for it to be done in ink and grey tones on grey paper. I was so happy with the final image I just might do more like this. Thanks Alex!

MODESTY BLAISE - HeroesCon Sketch

This is one that was done at the show for Alan. He had seen a few Modesty pieces on the web that I had drawn and he felt I must be a fan because I captured her look so well. As it turns out, I am a fan! Thanks Alan, it was nice meeting you.

ZATANNA - HeroesCon Advance Sketch

Zatanna © DC Comics

I will try to share more pieces from HeroesCon 2012 over the next few days while I catch up with a sketch card set and other work. If I did a piece for you at the show, please send me a scan or good photo so I can share it here. I was a bit off my game at the show and forgot to take photos of the pieces I did. Oy.

First up is a Zatanna Canson Cutie. I haven't done too many of these lately and managed to line up two for the show of Zatanna. This one was done for Joe. Thanks Joe!

The Walking Dead - Sketch Cards

I don't know if I mentioned it but I did some The Walking Dead sketch cards. Love the comic and the TV show. The focus of the set is on the comic book series. I just got the okay to share these so here they are.

I will have an update of HeroesCon Sketches later this week as scans start coming in.

HeroesCon 2012

I want to thank everyone who dropped by my table at HeroesCon this weekend. I got to see old friends and meet new ones that I only know from different social media sites. Seeing everyone was very uplifting. I especially thank Joe Pekar and Will & Stacy Allred (and the great white apes. You know who you are) for their company, laughter and insults. Since I normally insult Will, flirt with Stacy and cower from the Great White Apes, insults aimed at me came from Joe. : )

Also thank you to the fine folks at HeroesCon for putting on such a great show. See you next year!

Please check back in a bit for an art post.

COMMANDER STEEL - HeroesCon Advance Sketch

Commander Steel © DC Comics

Jason sent me a list of characters to choose from for his HeroesCon Advance Sketch. There were a lot of cool choices, but for some reason this guy stood out. As soon as I saw his name, I knew what I wanted to do. Thanks Jason!

SUNFIRE - HeroesCon Advance Sketch

Sunfire © Marvel Entertainment

Thanks to Bill for another request for a character I have never drawn before. I was a DC guy and never read Marvel. When I finally tried some Marvel Comics, Sunfire was in the first X-Men book I picked up. I don't remember the issue but he was attacking Jean Grey in an apartment building. I think.  I haven't seen that issue in years. But I thought he was pretty cool looking. Thanks Bill!

Royce requested Wonder Girl from her earliest incarnation as a Teen Titan. This was before she was known as Donna Troy and back when the male Teen Titans would call her Wonder Chick. :) Thanks Royce!

LUORNU DURGO - HeroesCon Advance Sketch

Duo Damsel © DC Comics

Not Triplicate Girl. Not Duo Damsel. Actually this is Luornu Durgo after her second body was killed. Her power was being able to split into 3 individuals and she was called Triplicate Girl. When one body was killed, she became Duo Damsel. After the second body was killed, she was just Luornu. I think in the new series she is now called Duplicate Girl and can make multiple copies of herself. Oh, and she is married to Bouncing Boy, the smartest of all the Legionnaires. ;)

I thought it would be fun for Luornu to be casting two shadows. One represents her Triplicate Girl costume, the other as Duo Damsel. This is the last Legionnaire for Michael. And all have been a blast! Thanks again Michael!

LIGHTNING LAD - HeroesCon Advance Sketch

Lightning Lad in his Five Years Later garb. I thought it was fun that the clothing on Lightning Lad's home planet was kind of colonial looking. Thanks again to Michael for this piece!

POLAR BOY - HeroesCon Advance Sketch

Polar Boy © DC Comics

I've always thought of Polar Boy as the ultimate Legion fanboy. He tried out, he was rejected, he gathered other rejects and created his own Legion. A Legion of Substitute Heroes. A "Legion" of six members. He wanted so much to be part of the big team and eventually he got his shot. For me Polar Boy is younger than the other members, and in someways the torch carrier for what the Legion was and should be in an idealized fashion. And he will drag the more seasoned and jaded characters with him towards that ideal. :)

Thanks again to Michael for another Legionnaire!

PROJECTRA - HeroesCon Advance Sketch

Projectra © DC Comics

The Five Years Later version of Projectra, or Jeckie as the Legionnaires would come to call her. Jeckie has the ability to cast illusions that affect all five senses. When she joined the Legion she was Princess Projectra of Orando, a very low tech almost medieval world. Eventually she became Queen Projectra of Orando. And as with the other Five Year Later Legionnaires, this one is for Michael. Thanks Michael!

STAR BOY - HeroesCon Advance Sketch

Star Boy © DC Comics

Continuing with the 5 Years Later Legion characters, this is Star Boy. Star Boy has the ability to increase the mass of a person or object. He started out as a "superboy" type character. Even his powers were similar. In his debut, Lana Lang tried to use him to make Superboy jealous. Years later Star Boy would be kicked out of the Legion because he killed someone in self-defense. He joined his girlfriend and one-time Legionnaire Dream Girl in the Legion of Substitute Heroes before joining the Legion once again. It's too bad no one did any Sub stories back then that featured Star Boy and Dream Girl. Those two would have brought some credibility to the team. :)

Thanks Michael!

TYROC - HeroesCon Advance Sketch

Tyroc © DC Comics

Another Legionnaire for Michael! Tyroc has the honor (?) of being the first black Legionnaire. Rumor has it that Shadow Lass would have had that spot in the 1960s, but there was  editorial cold feet. Not sure if that's true though. Tyroc has sonic abilities, though most of the time in his debut he just yelled some strange sounds that did almost magical stuff. Still, he has gotten much cooler since then. Thanks Michael!

This is Post #1721

And now a word from your humble host...

I will be posting some art work later but first I have a few announcements to make...

Let's start off with something really cool!  I hope everyone is aware that Joe Pekar (my partner in crime on the 2-PT Perspective Blog) has started his own blog. You need to check it out asap. See what he has in store for everyone and help him start off with a bang! Congrats Joe! http://joepekarart.blogspot.com/

HeroesCon 2012 is coming up fast and in spite of everything going on around here, I am slightly ahead of schedule with the advance sketches. Anyone on the list planning to pay in advance through PayPal, please feel free to do so. I will post your finished art here. I plan to have all the art done before the show and start a new list there. And I am really looking forward to seeing everyone.

Lastly...

For the last few months I have been doing some thinking about the future of this blog. As almost everyone here knows it was started as an experiment to see if I could post new artwork everyday for one year. That was almost four and a half years ago. I never had an end date planned after that first year. I just kept going. So after much thought, I have decided that this blog will end it's daily run of art posts on January 1, 2013. That will make it a solid 5 years. I know the announcement is early. I mean, six months plus to go. But this makes it real for me and sets a goal. I like goals. Also, notice I said the blog will end it's "daily run of art posts". I will provide more information over the next six months of some of my plans. Thanks for being here all these years and I hope you will continue to visit.

Check back later for another HeroesCon 2012 Advance Sketch of the Legionnaire Tyroc.
