The Emerald Empress - The Fatal Five

We are sticking with the Legion of Super-Heroes theme. Today we have the villainess Emerald Empress of the Fatal Five with the Emerald Eye of Ekron. The Empress and the Fatal Five were created by Jim Shooter and Curt Swan. This image was done in ink on 11" x 17" Strathmore Bristol Board.
And then colored in Photoshop. This is a rather quick color job. After I resized the file for the web I started playing with the color. Which just means if I ever wanted to print this out I would have to start over with a higher resolution. But for now this will do.

A few of other things I need to mention today. All having to do with original art and availability.

Tom Fleming, my good friend and owner of Fanfare Sports & Entertainment, Inc, is hosting my pin-up art and sequential art. Tom has had my sequential art on his site for years but has since offered to help me with my pin-up art. I haven't had the time to put together a shop on-line and this is a big help. If not for him all the art I am doing would sit in draws until a convention. So if you are interested in something from me, please check out Tom's site. He is also the representative for a lot of other artists so you might want to check out all he has on the site. Thanks for your help Tom! First round of Mojitos are on me when the Flemings come down for vacation!

I got an email from someone interested in a piece I posted here. Unfortunately that piece was a commission but it did make me think that I have never addressed the availability of the art I post here. So, if you see something on this blog that you are interested in, send me an email. I do try to say whether it is a commission or commercial piece so if there is any question just contact me. Because I do this blog 7 days a week, there is a lot of pieces in the files looking for a home. :)

I have finished inking the pages of Cavewoman that creator Budd Root had entrusted to me. I think they came out pretty slick. I will let you know when they can be shared and when the book comes out. Thanks Budd, that was fun. Let's do it again sometime!

And lastly, I had thought to do a Conventionless Convention Sketch deal again, but I think I will just say that the commission list is open. :)

This is Post #710

Love the aristocratic look of evil on her, Gene! If you're still on the Legion kick tomorrow, may I suggest either Duo Damsel or Princess Projectra?

The EE is so evil, she somehow knocked out the blog counter (at least I can't see it on my screen!).

Very nice pose! Please continue to explain a bit about the characters, especially for us who are not as learned about the Legion!

Regards,

Gary

Looking forward to seeing those Cavewoman pages Gene! I know they are terrific!! Love the Evil Empiress. I grew up admiring Curt and hate that I never got to meet him personally. That reminds me that I need to go see Neal Adams sometime soon as well. None of us are getting any younger! Those two were my very favorites growing up. Many others were on that list, but those two are at the very top.

Gene, the Empress is my favorite-ever Legion villain...and you did a great job on here here! Fantastic!

P.S.--> While I was in Pittsburgh, I got to meet Mr. Fleming and you're right...he's a tremendously nice guy. And for what it's worth, I'm with LUD! Princess Projectra! :)

Thanks LUD. We'll see about the requests. :)

Gary - I fixed the counter so it shows up on your screen now. ;) Also here is a link to the Empress wiki, sorry I didn't go into much detail about her: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emerald_Empress

Royce - Thanks for the vote of confidence Royce. I think Budd will like them. Tough to just dive in and ink someone for the first time and get it right, but I think they look good.

I met Curt in Pittsburgh a few months before he died. I was such a fanboy. He was great and very kind.

Shane - Thanks!

Carlos - Thanks! In Pittsburgh you met Tom Fleming the artist, not the Tom Fleming I mentioned. But both guys get the confusion all the time. Tom the artist will get calls about Tom the dealers site and Tom the dealer gets complements about Tom the artist's work. If they ever shake hands the universe might implode. :) All in all, both are great guys.

And another vote for Jeckie. Hmmm.

Gene, I think I was at that same convention you were-- I was so in awe of Curt, I could only mumble some fanboy praises to the man. Now as I think back, I wish I had really had a chance to gotten some books autographed by him.

Another great Legion-flavored pinup, Gene... keep 'em coming!

I've done business with Tom Fleming the art rep a few times -- he managed my two Dave Ross commissions -- and have always been pleased with his communication and professionalism. You'll be in good hands with Tom handling your art.

(Tom Fleming the artist is a good guy, too. I own the original pencils of the Storm print that he frequently sells on eBay.)

LUD-I met Curt at the Pittsburgh ComiCon. I didn't have him sign anything but I was lucky that Steve Leiber's dad was right there with a camera and he snapped a couple of pictures of me and Curt. :)

Michael - Thanks! Tom is one of my best friends. He and his family have been coming down to spend their vacations with us since we moved to Florida. Sometimes twice a year. Always a blast! Prior to that both our families would do Thanksgiving together in Columbus, before the Mid-Ohio Con. And I have stayed at his house when I went to Michigan. We have a long history. It's all funny because we met through eBay. :) Glad to hear you have had good business with him, he's one of the good ones.

And Tom Fleming the artist is a good guy as well. I would have nothing but good things to say about him and is work!
