Spent the bulk of the day inking 18 spot illustrations and iconic images but I also finally finished Lady Blackhawk. I also did a bit of research to use the right plane that she flew in the original series. Overall I am pleased with her. Still finding the darker paper tougher to work on but I still get the results I am looking for.
I have put her up on eBay for anyone interested. You can find her here.
I probably won't be doing anymore for auctions for a couple of weeks. I have commissions to get to and some other work that needs attention. So everyone might have to put up with sketchbook material for a few days. Please hang in there. :)

Gene,
Was getting a little worried there! Thought maybe you were going to "April Fool us" and end the streak!
LB looks great and I think you did overcome the darker Canson paper with this one. It just works.
Can you share any of the spot illustrations?
By the way, who are your favorite current illustrators out there in the field?
Gary
Sorry to give you a scare, Gary. Worked a long day, had a meal, watched a movie, then posted. :)
I'm glad you like the LB piece. The spot illustrations are for a marketing agency in L.A. to use on their redesigned website. They will be animating some of them in Flash. I will let everyone know when the site goes live and you can see them then. Should be cool, all of the art is done in the 1950s-1960s style of comic art with rockets, space, planets and so on. Also I have drawn the principle people there in that style complete with halftone dots for the complete old comic look.
Current illustrators that I like? Hmmm. I find a lot of new artists on the web when I bounce from one artist to another. I'm drawing a blank right now but a quick check through my bookmarks will turn some up I'm sure. I will get back to you on this. Thanks!
Another gorgeous rendition of Lady Blackhawk, Gene -- you seem to have a real affinity for the character!
Nice, very nice!
Lady B looks fantastic and your new project sounds like a blast!
Thanks guys!
I showed your Zinda to Gail Simone & her reply was "that is one of the most beautiful and spot-on portrayals of Zinda I have ever seen. Spectacular. I would put that on my wall if I owned it."
Just thought I would share.
(and she's right; LB looks amazing)
Thanks Zatanna. Out of the blue, Gail started following me on Twitter. While I pondered that someone sent me a link to her comments. Thank you for bringing my work to her attention. And thank you for the kind words!
