Surfer Girl

Busy day at the Labs sketching on white boards for hours. But I managed to do a little quickie idea of an island girl on a long board with a crabby passenger. Color pencil, ink brush marker and Photoshop color.

Anything with a Surfer Girl automatically gets my attention. Thanks to Brian Wilson for the most part. Hate crabs though....long story... but the rest of this isn't half bad, especially for a quickie! Love the composition.

Gene,

Royce is right, the composition is terrific and it is great that you take the time during these exercises to do backgrounds. Can you give me an idea of how long it took to sketch this including the colors (i.e., minus the Photoshop)? Is this the 15-30(?) minutes process decribed in an earlier post?

Thanks guys. This sketch was about 10-15 minutes. Once I have the general color pencil sketch I just grab a marker brush to "find" the bold and thin lines with quick strokes, not worrying about the lines being pretty. I probably spent an additional 10 minutes scanning and adding the color.

I'm trying to get faster at the general concept. I used to spend too much time in the details right at the beginning. Working as a business illustrator on white boards has helped cure me of that. Now I think I can get the same if not more information down in a fraction of the time. The end of needless rendering in the beginning helps me know if the image will work or not early on.
