I didn't do any warm up sketches today. But I did do this after dinner tonight. Just to play with color for a while. Digitally painting is great. Experimentation is so easy. You do something you don't like or if you go down a road that is not working out, you just back up. No mess. You still need to know a bit about painting but anyone can jump in and try this. I use a Wacom Tablet for most everything I do on the computer. My daughter just got the Wacom Bamboo and she loves painting in Photoshop and Painter now. It was difficult to use a mouse. Like painting with a brick. Wacom has a beautiful tablet called the Cintiq 20WSX. It is a 20" wide screen tablet you draw on. It cost $1,999.00. One day..."sigh".
This took about 45 minutes from pencil start to Photoshop painted.

Gene,
Wow, those green eyes with the red hair are very striking! Did you have an inspiration for this piece, or just something that came to you after dinner?
Maybe that Cintiq 20WSX will come down in price. Or, newer versions of the technology may come out. Kind of like all new technolgies, very expensive at first, then affordable for everyone later on! One can hope, I'd love to see what you can do with it!

Very nice Gene. I have a real affinity for Redheads and this one really hits the spot. Never used a Wacom tablet but hear that once you go there, there is no coming back to the mouse, even for "non-art" uses. But as always, ultimately the tools matter less than what you are able to do with them. You seem to be able to show your talent with them all. Enjoyed seeing this one a lot.
Gary - Thanks. No inspiration for it. Just started drawing some heads and I liked the tilt of this one. Fingers crossed that the price drops at some point for the Cintiq. The problem is it is for such a niche market that the demand isn't enough to drop the cost of making them. Heading out for a lottery ticket.
Royce - Thanks for the kind words. Glad she hit the spot for you. : )
