Isabel's Story

This is a great example of comics used for education and in this case, health education. These are two pages from a project I did that was used by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services. ISABEL'S STORY is a bilingual booklet about osteoporosis. A important health issue for women. The book is a flip book that is in Spanish as well as English. The hope is to explain the disease to Spanish speaking women and the precautions they can take to minimize the dangers. I did the black and white line art, others handled the colors, lettering and production. You can actually order this booklet or download the pdf version for free here. Get a copy for all the women in your life. (Little side note, the part of the pug on the first page was performed by our own Coco the pug. So far the stardom has not gone to her head.)

Gene,

What really strikes me about these pages is your sequential visual story telling skills. Even without the word ballons on the second page, the reader gets a great sense of what is happening and the emotions of Isabel. The pug is a nice add to the chaos in the kitchen.

For hardcopies of these types of projects, is it typical to publish the credits so people know who wrote and drew the project?

Thanks for sharing and explaining your work!

Gary

Gary,

Thanks for the kind words. Every project is different as far as credits go. Some jobs have my name attached to them, some don't. There isn't a set standard. Funny thing is I actually have no idea who wrote the story. How strange is that?

Gene,

No idea who wrote the story? Wonder if the writer knows who illustrated it??

I've ordered a copy for the ladies in my life!

Thanks,

Gary

Gene,

I received a copy of this from the Gov today. Nice, sleek publication that does the art justice. Unfortunately, no credit mentioned to the illustrator as far as I can tell! Guess this means you don't pay taxes on this job!
