Invincible

I don't buy monthly comics anymore. I know, I'm a bad person. But after buying monthly comics since the early seventies, I had too many boxes of books. ("Had" because I recently let go of my entire collection from golden age through bronze age books).

I do buy trades and hardcovers though. Of the hardcovers I buy, one of my favorites is INVINCIBLE. In my opinion, this is a great comic. Superheroes done right. A full, rich world of characters that you can really get to know and care for. I have always been a fan of Superboy. The idea of a character destined for greatness and you are along for the ride of him growing and learning. This is how I think of Invincible. Odds are he will be one of the best but right now, he is just trying to find his way and do what's right.

I only purchase the INVINCIBLE ULTIMATE COLLECTION's as they come out once a year. It takes a lot of patience to not buy the paperbacks that come out more frequently, or the monthly. But I am rewarded when the big hardcover comes out. If you have a chance, give it a try. There is another hardcover I pick up that only comes out once a year, but I will save that for another post.

Hi Gene,

Well, you certainly have more willpower than me. I have been filling comic boxes since the 1970's and, well, my basement is looking like a Comic Shop warehouse!!

Do you keep your hardcovers and trades? If you do, maybe in twenty years.....

Nice heads up on Invinicible, maybe I will give it a try! Thanks for sharing the art and the reco!

Gary

I got rid of mine in 1989 when I got married, but about 5 years ago, starting back with the ultra cheap 1989-2009 Superman Family of titles. They indeed are space hogs! Hey, come to think of it, add some space hogs to your upcoming project to go with the monkeys, cows, and einstein!

One of the BEST books of the new millennium. It's the best parts of Spider-Man, and the best parts of Superman in ONE character. Stunning piece, sir.

I have only read the first trade (my local store was out of vol 2) but it was pretty fun. This sketch is one of my favorites! I love the softer colors, it is really a cool effect!

Gary - It wasn't as tough as I thought. So many Showcases, Archives, and so on. A lot of my comics were duplicated. I am starting to go through my trades now. Those I don't reread I will probably put up on eBay for a deal. Thanks! I hope you enjoy Invincible.

Royce - Space hogs and interstellar chickens, coming up! Say, isn't that a breakfast special at Cracker Barrel?

Thanks Lan. I agree with you about Invincible. 100%!

Shane - I don't know how far the first trade goes, but the first 12 issues are the big set up for some great story telling. I devour the 12 issue hard covers when they come out. Then I have to wait another 51 weeks.
