Space Girl

For his second commission, Jeff asked for a retro space girl. If I get to draw a cute girl with a rocket pack, a bubble helmet, and a ray gun, I am so there! Thanks again Jeff for a pair of fun commissions.

Next: Catwoman! Same Bat-Time, Same Bat-Channel!

Gary - Yup, I do like this material. Thanks!

Craig - Thanks! Glad you liked it!

Royce - I never watched Space: 1999, but I did see some episodes of UFO, the british sci-fi show created by the same team that did Space: 1999. And they had the purple hair cuties. And the chain smoking, whiskey drinking, men. I found the show site: http://ufoseries.com/ and the lead actress was Gabrielle Drake. Google her. I wonder if there was a direct connection between the two shows?

I said Space 1999 but meant UFO. Brain Freeze there for a moment I guess. The Gerry Anderson and the BBC made both series I think, but not certain on that. Loved the UFO show as a kid. Haven't seen it in years but always loved the design of the alien ships. That show was full of acronyms. S.I.D. and S.H.A.D.O. If I remmberm the series was set in 1980 and SHADO was situated beneath the offices of a movie studio in LA.

Royce - When I was a guest at the Baltimore Con a few years back, I stayed with my buddy J.C. Vaughn. When I got to his place, there were several comic folks watching UFO on DVD. I had never seen the show but was interested. Then on the screen is a space ship I had as a kid. It was die cast and heavy with a spring loaded missle on the front. Great for putting out eyes. I remember where I convinced my mom to buy it for me but I didn't know what it was from. All this talk made me look up the collection: $44.00 on DeepDiscountDVD.com but I won it tonight on eBay for $12.59. Top notch seller so it should be in good condition.

One other show I remember seeing a few minutes of as a kid was The Champions. Another BBC show but I didn't know the name of it at the time. I only recently found out. It was a cross between The Challengers of the Unknown and the Six Million Dollar Man, via Tibet. :)

Big fan here of UFO. Despite the colorful, "mod" production design, it's actually a very dark show.

Oh, and space girl? Drooool.....

Gene, you lucky dog!! Got the DVD for under $15? I am officially jealous. I would LOVE to relive my 12th and 13th year by watching a few episodes. UFO was on weekdays off and on during those two years and I tried to never miss it. I remember the Interceptor toy you mentioned with the missile. I had that as well as a SKY -1 toy as well. My brother Eric also had the SID satellite and one of the ground vehicles. Good times....

I really like the style of the show. Looking forward to actually seeing more. Thanks Chris!

Royce, right place, right time. If you hadn't mention the purple hair moon base girls, I wouldn't have looked on eBay last night. :)
