Light Lass - Legion of Super-Heroes

I'm still on a Legion kick, folks. Today we have Light Lass, twin sister of Lightning Lad and kid sister to the villainous Lightning Lord. Light Lass' power was being able to negate gravity. At one time her power matched her brothers but were changed by Dream Girl, using science from her home world. Light Lass was romantically linked to Timber Wolf for most runs of the Legion. Later she would be linked with Shrinking Violet.

For this little scene I have The Persuader losing his footing against Light Lass. Soon he will be on his way to Takron-Galtos, the prison planet. If you knew nothing about Light Lass and the Legion before this post, you know a lot now. :)

This one is being colored digitally. The original is ink on 11" x 17" Strathmore Bristol Board.

This is Post #701

We are on a Legion roll! Hooray! And a very cute Legionnaire also!

I like the way that the Persuader is being jostled around in the fore front with his weapon/various items being airborne in the background.

Oh, and that signature....:-)

You know I love the Legion, Gene!
Great work as always!

Gene...admit it! Our conversation back in Pittsburgh got you back onto your Legion roll!

Ayla's one of my favorite Legionnaires...and you did an awesome job with her! Fabulous! :D

A lovely job with Ayla, Gene!

I always thought poor Ayla got stuck with one of the silliest codenames in a club filled with silly codenames. Her superpower doesn't have anything to do with light.

Why couldn't she be, say, Anti-Grav Girl or Zero-G Lass, or something else more appropriate?

Thanks Gary. I thought it would be fun to have the image tell a little story instead of just a pin-up.

Yup, LUD, Long live the Legion! :)

Yup, that was a fun conversation we had in Pittsburgh. Glad you like my version of Ayla.

Thanks Michael. But of course the silliest codename goes to Matter-Eater Lad.

I have always thought (agreed) about Matter Eater Lad being the dumbest name. I think they had to change her power to keep her in the club since there was a rule about not having duplicate powered members serving athe same time, which didn't make sense to me as a young reader.

I must say that this spunky redheaded Legionnaire is terrific Gene!!! And since the team technically was influenced by Suprman, I may have to add a few of them to my Superman Family theme......

Hey, any excuse for a Gonzo pinup of a Legionnaire!!

Not only did Matter-Eater Lad have the silliest codename, he had the silliest superpower in history. They kept Polar Boy and Night Girl out of the Legion, but they let in the guy who ate stuff?

Honorable mention: Bouncing Boy. But I always liked Chuck as a character, despite his ridiculous power.

Gotta love those Cockrum / Grell era Legion costumes. The series might have read better at other times in its history, but it never looked as good as when Dave (RIP) or Mike was on the art.

Royce - Yeah, poor Matter-Eater Lad. But hey, he did grow up to be President of Bismoll. The Legion rule of a unique power for each member was kind of silly. Wouldn't you want three or four Mon-El's when the going gets tough? Which is funny because Supergirl, Superboy and Mon-El had the same powers. Mon was Daxam and that was the only difference. And I am always up for Legion art, you just say the word. :) Shall we start with Elastic Lad? He has red hair. ;)

Michael - Very true. Though I always thought Chuck was the smartest and savviest Legionnaire: He married Duo Damsel. Niiiice. :)

Vincent - Well said sir!
