The Phantom Stranger

Just a little Phantom Stranger sketch today. A DC Comics character that has been around for quite a while. My first exposure to him was when Jim Aparo drew him in the 1970s. While not a big fan of the character, I thought his look was pretty cool. This was done with ink on 11" x 17" Canson Bristol Board. Enjoy the weekend everyone!

I've never been a fan of the character, but I like your drawing of him!

Gene,

I am not that familiar with the character, but from what I know, you have captured the "noir" aspects of him. Perhaps with Frank Millers Spirt movie coming out, we will see more of this type of character.

Have a great weekend!

Same here, the character never captured my fancy as did the Spectre and Deadman, but I was always drawn to the covers. I especially loved the logo! Both his and the Witching Hour!

Thanks guys. I suspect that the vagueness of the character never really worked for me. Sometimes they would put him in a Justice League story and that just seemed weird. And when he would do superhero type action, like firing beams from his hands, that didn't work either. But you are right Royce, the covers were pretty darn cool.
