Power Girl

Power Girl done in ink and color pencil on 11" x 17" Canson Mi-Teintes paper. The color of the paper is listed as sky blue, but it is more of a blue-gray tint. She is another one destined for eBay tonight. Okay, back to work. :)

Wow, the Earth 2 "Kara" is gorgeous. Love the confident pose and again that face is gorgeous! Classic Gene Gonzales!
Turned about 70 degrees here after we missed school on Monday due to 5 inches of snow. Crazy weather, but this weekend feels like SPRING!! WOOHOO!!

Gene,

Yes, you are being very productive this week (but hey, you are productive every week, right?).

Again, I like the blue outline around the figure, just does something good for the piece.

I see that Power Girl is getting her own series from DC. I still think DC would do well to have Gene as the cover artist (and maybe allow a variant cover from that Hughes guy once in awhile :-).

Thanks again Gene!

Just saw the Gwen Stacy preview. I have said it all along (since the 70's) Peter Parker was a fool for not pursueing the blonde...and I LOVE Redheads! Just sayin'

Hey, Gwen is coming along fine!

One item struck me with the face. I was under the impression for years (because I read it somewhere) that the head is five eyes wide with one eye width between the two eyes. However, an instructor at a recent class I took said that this is not really the case for a 2-D image (unless you want to distort the head wider).

So, now I look for this in sketches and see that Gene's Gwen indeed does not appear to be five "eyes" wide.

Net, it's seem that these are the type of little pieces of knowledge that make a great difference in saying "this is a great piece" vs "something seems a little off, but I can't put my fingers on it".

Thanks Royce. Glad you are enjoying the weather I sent your way. ;)

I said it before, and I still stand by it: We need to get Gary an editorial job at DC. Then I will have an "in". Thanks Gary! :)

It's the hair band Royce. :)

Gary, interesting. I don't even think about the rules anymore. Thanks for pointing this out and thank goodness I was following them. The rules are always good to learn. You can't bend or break them until you know what they are. That can be a problem when learning how to draw from comics. Comic art, in most cases, are an exaggeration. If you learn from them, you are doing an exaggeration on top of an exaggeration. Equals bad art.

Great take on PG, Gene! She a phenomenal character, but one that many artists don't quite seem to 'get'...IMHO anyway ;)

But this piece really nails both her overall look and her personality.

I've really been enjoying this series of charcoal paper sketches -- particularly the way you're employing color in them.
