BLACK CANARY - Finished

Here she is. Finished her up this morning. This one has a lot more acrylic than most. To get the shiny areas to have some real nice hot spots, I left those areas without black ink and then did a wash of white acrylic paint, just enough so that even though the paper color was still showing through, the color was a lot lighter. I did this a couple of times and then hit the hottest spots with pure white. Darker paper is really tougher but I think it was a good choice for this piece. Thanks to Tim for this commission. We will have the second of Tim's choices tomorrow: Dream Girl of The Legion of Super-Heroes.

Thanks LUD! How long did it take...hmmmm. Probably three hours. I worked on it last night for a couple of hours and finished in about an hour this morning. Then did Dream Girl before noon. Had some lunch, ran an errand and then started and finished Mary Jane Watson. Oops, I shouldn't have said that. ;)

Thanks Royce. I'm still having fun experimenting with the paper and mixing up the mediums. I hope it shows.

Thanks Brian! Don't touch the hot spots, you'll get burned. :)

Gene,

Oh my! What instructions, if any, did you receive to come up with the pose? Or were you just asked to do a Black Canary?

She is fantastic!

You like, Craig? :) Thanks!

Tim sent me a pose for both characters. They were not photos of real people though, just other pieces of art. It was an anime character's pose that was the jumping off point for Canary. It's not an exact because the character had a long robe and the left arm was straight down at a 45° angle holding the robe open. Well, Canary's bolero jacket doesn't go that far so I modified the pose to fit the character. Plus the anime character was proportioned like an anime character so that had to be changed. Thanks!
