Psylocke 2 - Pittsburgh ComiCon Advance Sketch
Psylocke © Marvel Entertainment
Here is another Psylocke, but this time I painted her in fluid acrylics. It was fun that there were two Psylockes on the list, with different costumes and both from time periods before she was turned into an asian assassin. Thanks to Louie for this commission!
There will be more posted tomorrow.

One-Eyed Jacquie & Sue Storm - Pittsburgh ComiCon Advance Sketch
Here is a pair commissioned by Matt. These two were a lot of fun because I have never heard of One-Eyed Jacquie and I haven't drawn any of the new costumes of the FF. Both were done in ink on 11" x 17" bristol board. Thanks for the commissions Matt!

The Enchantress - Pittsburgh ComiCon Advance Sketch
The Enchantress © Marvel Entertainment
This Canson Cutie was commissioned by Tim. I always dig drawing this costume so this was a lot of fun. Thanks Tim.
Pittsburgh ComiCon tomorrow! WooHoo! I am flying in tomorrow and I will be a couple of hours late for the start of the show. Though my flight gets in before the start time of 1pm, I will still have to get the rental car and do the long drive from the airport to Monroeville, the actual location of the show. They did not locate that airport anywhere near, well, anything. But it's a pretty drive, no doubt about that.
I have finished my advance sketch list so all the art can be picked up when I get there. Also I will be starting a fresh sketch list at the show. I will be doing 11" x 17" figures inked and 9" x 12" inked head sketches. No color work at the show, sorry. I will be sitting next to Joe Pekar so if there is a table next to him that is empty, it's probably mine. :)
Please check this blog, my Twitter account and my Posterous site for updates of artwork and other travel/convention related posts.

The Bat & The Cat (rough) - Pittsburgh ComiCon Advance Sketch
Batman & Catwoman © DC Comics
I have had a very full day of work, as well as finishing a Canson Cutie of the Enchantress, a painting of Psylocke and the rough idea for Brian "Batmite" Jone's Canson piece featuring you know who and you know the other who. But I still would have nothing to show here if it wasn't for Brian giving me the okay to share this rough. You will see more of this piece very, very soon. Thanks for the save Brian!
Okay, back to work!

Psylocke - Pittsburgh ComiCon Advance Sketch
Psylocke © Marvel Entertainment
This Cason Cutie of Psylocke is for Gary Miller. He wanted the earlier version of Betsy Braddock and I was happy to do it. I cannot recall ever drawing this costume but I have always liked it. Thanks for the commission Gary.
Also, I had found out today is Gary's birthday. Even though this piece was finished yesterday, I thought I would fun to post this today. Happy birthday Gary!
More Canson Cuties to come.
This piece was done in mixed media on an 11" x 17" sheet of orchid Mi-Tentes Canson Paper.

We have Saturn Girl making another appearance on my Pittsburgh ComicCon Advance Sketch List. This one is for Anthony and this time Saturn Girl is in her pink "bikini" outfit from the 1970s. I will not presume to say who designed this costume. Learned my lesson. :) Thanks again Anthony. I hope she is a welcome addition to your collection.

Phantom Girl - Pittsburgh ComiCon Advance Sketch
Phantom Girl © DC Comics
I'm doing something a little different this time. I will be sharing the art I am doing in advance of the Pittsburgh ComiCon. Actually, I will only be sharing the prepaid pieces and only with the okay of the person who commissioned it. I have a lot of commercial work right now and any free time is dedicated to the list. So I haven't got much time for anything else that I could post. And I can't share the commercial work yet. So...
This was created for Royce! Royce was going to attend his first Pittsburgh ComiCon but just recently had to cancel. You are going to miss out on a great dinner party Royce. Sorry you can't make it. Royce asked for Phantom Girl and Saturn Girl from the Curt Swan/Adventure Comics era. Well, he had me hooked on the idea when he said "How about some Legionnaires?" So today we have Phantom Girl in her original outfit. I am really happy with her face. For some reason I see a young Barbi Benton in her eyes. Not intentional. And I may be the only one who sees it, but I like it. Thanks Royce!
This was done in ink on a sheet of 11" x 17" bristol board.

Pittsburgh Comicon 2011 Advance Sketch List
Artwork © 2011 Gene Gonzales
It's that time folks! Pittsburgh ComiCon is April 15-17 and it is time to open up the advance sketch list. I will work on this list leading up to the convention. Especially the more complicated pieces. There are a few changes to the process this year so please look over the details provided below :)
Prices:
Inked sketches: single figure, on 11" x 17" Bristol Board: $50.00
Acrylic painted: single figure on 12" x 16" (approximate size): 150.00
Canson pieces: single figure on 11" x 17": 125.00.
Payment: Here is the big changes this year. There will be three options for payment:
PayPal: You may pay in advance for your request using PayPal. Please contact me first with your request before you send money.
Credit Card at the Con: This is the first year I will be accepting major credit cards at a convention. I have signed up with Square (www.squareup.com) in order to do so. Fast and secure.
Cash: You can pay for the art when you pick it up.
Special Note: I will only be doing inked sketches at the show. It's was a bit much last year to bring paint and pencils and a variety of boards and brushes with me on the plane. So if you have a request for a Canson piece or a painted piece, please order now and I will bring the finished art with me.
Please send your questions and requests with "Pittsburgh ComiCon Sketch List" in the subject line of your email. This will really help me keep track of everything.
Please send your questions and requests with "Pittsburgh ComiCon Sketch List" in the subject line of your email. This will really help me keep track of everything.
This advance list is only for those attending Pittsburgh ComiCon 2011 in person. I do request that if you are on my list and are not going to make it, please let me know. And if possible, please pick up your artwork as soon as you can when you arrive at the convention. Or pay for your spot on the list, whichever applies.
I may ask for reference if I don't know the character or if I can't find it on the web at the show.
You can email me links to references before the show. I can alway print them out and take them with me if I need to .
An advantage to getting on the list early gives me some time to think about your request(s), bounce ideas around in my head, maybe doodle ideas in my sketchbook, and possibly show up at the con with your finished piece. There is a finite amount of requests I can take. I do not know what that number is because I don't know the requests. So sign up early and often. :)
If you have any questions about the sketch list, please ask. And even if you are not getting something but will be at the show, please drop by and say "hi".
Other Convention Stuff
I will have other original art at the show, some you have seen here on this blog. I will also have my new sketchbook. This book will feature commissions/pin-ups done on color Canson paper. I will also have prints for sale.
This was a lot of information to cover. If anything is confusing to you, let me know and I will do my best to clarify. And please excuse any typos. :)
Here we go!
