Supergirl - Maid of Might! Inked Commission

Supergirl © DC Comics

Royce made his choice from the roughs I posted and here is the finished piece. For me this Supergirl costume is second only to the hot pants costume as drawn by Bob Oksner or Art Saaf. It's fun, sexy and I think she got it from Diana "Wonder Woman" Prince. I seem to recall Supergirl trying on the costume in Diana's boutique. (WW lost her powers back then and was doing her Emma Peel impression. Google that if you are too young to know what I am talking about). :) I don't have those particular issues anymore so I may be wrong. Feel free to correct me if I am.

Which reminds me, it would be great if DC would make their library available in a digital format. I would go broke, that's for sure.

Thanks again Royce. As you know, I am always up to drawing Kara. And now I have a bunch of poses that I can work on in my free time. ;)

That turned out nice!

I've never seen that outfit before...until now!

Thanks John! It wasn't used more that a few issues. Here's a cover it was featured on. The colorist didn't color her gloves though. They were red. http://www.comics.org/issue/23850/cover/4/?style=default

Thanks LJ! We need to see a cosplay of this costume!

Yeah, the issue Gene is referring to was the first appearance of the costume. The colorist didn't realize that she was supposed to be wearing gloves and colored them "flesh colored" instead. It supposedly got by the art director because all he had was a black and white reference himself at the time. They had it sorted out by the next issue. And Gene is right....Kara bought this outfit from Wonder Woman and wore it for three or four issues before trying a few others. I need to dig those issues out and reread them. The stories were simplistic but like Gene, I loved the art! Wonderful job here Gene! Glad you enjoyed the choice!

This was during the period where Mike Sekowsky of classic JLA fame became an editor and was given three titles that were failing sales wise and try to boost their sales: Adventure Comics (Supergirl), Wonder Woman, and the Metal Men. Sekowsky decided to stir things up and gave them all new looks and situations. The Metal Men only lasted a few issues longer, but Wonder Woman and Supergirl managed to improve, with Supergirl managing to get her own series (which lasted only 10 issues)...

(glad to be back!)

Wecome back Lud! Thanks for the additional info!

John - Yup, the hot pants were best. Oksner and Saaf drew Kara with the longest legs too. :)

Glad you like it Brian, thanks!

Lisa - You kids these days. And stay off my lawn! ;) Seriously, glad you like the piece.

Thanks Gary!
