Psyche - (The Wanderers) - Conventionless Convention Sketches

Psyche © DC Comics

Psyche, the first of the seven heroes known as The Wanderers that I will be posting here. She is a mistress of emotions.

The Wanderers first appeared back in Adventure Comics #375 (1968) as a group of heroes of the 30th century. That first appearance had the Wanderers meet and befriend the Legion, then battle them when the Wanderers were exposed to the Nefar Nebula. The radiation of that nebula does a character reversal to a person when exposed to it. It's only last about two weeks though. :) This is for Michael.

Side note: The Wanderers had their own 13 issue comic book back in 1988 which was drawn by the late, great Dave Hoover. That was the first time I was exposed to Dave's work and loved it. Dave was a great guy who I always enjoyed talking and catching up with at the Pittsburgh Comic Con.

This is the continuation of Legion related pieces. For the next several days it will be all Legion, all the time.

Today's post is Dev-Em. He was introduced in a Superboy story as a juvenile delinquent on Krypton. Dev-Em survived the destruction of Krypton and continued his bad boy ways on Earth. Later he reformed and was an government agent in the 30th century. He shared several adventures with the Legion. This one is for Michael.

Phoenix: Rachel Summers - Conventionless Convention Sketch

Rachel Summers © Marvel Entertainment

I do believe this is the first time I have drawn Rachel in this incarnation. I believe she hunted other mutants in this get up. Very cool to draw. And one of those interesting tidbits about drawing a character in all black, a lot of people tend to think that it is easier. Actually it is just as much work, if not more sometimes, because the artist has to be careful to make sure the silhouette reads clearly. This one is for Shane.

Supergirl (Kingdom Come) - Conventionless Convention Sketch

Supergirl © DC Comics

This is based on the designs Alex Ross did for Kingdom Come. I don't think it was actually used anywhere else. I seem to remember that this concept for her, and Superboy, was that they were members of the Legion of Super-Heroes but they were not from the 20th or 21st century. Descendants maybe? This one is for Travis.

Superwoman - Conventionless Convention Sketch

Superwoman © DC Comics

I was not familiar with this version of Laurel Kent before I received the request from Travis, but I like the design. A bit of Lois Lane's Superwoman from All-Star Superman mixed with a cool way to wrap the cape around the front.

Apparition/Phantom Girl - Conventionless Convention Sketch

Apparition © DC Comics

I love drawing Legionnaires. And I have always liked the costumes from this time period. She may be called Apparition in this version but she was always Phantom Girl to me. :)

Supergirl (1971) - Conventionless Convention Sketch

Supergirl © DC Comics

First CCS just had to be Kara. And there will be more than a few versions of Supergirl coming up over the next several days. I have no problem with that. This version is from her run in Adventure Comics. She wore this full body suit for a short time. Sometime between a mini dress and the popular hot pants costumes.
